Understanding Your Skillrex Individual Skill Profile Report

How to interpret your personalized results based on Skillrex assessment data analysis – Each individual report includes the following:

Home

A simple landing page. States the individual protege’s name and their self-identified career level and cybersecurity functional area. A link to the reference guide from the assessment that describes the functional areas, proficiency rating scale, and competencies is also included.

Individual Talent Profile Page

A data visualization of how participants rated their own proficiency across the 60 competencies on the self-assessment, color-coded by category: Technical, Leadership, Professional, and Organizational. This was across the rating scale:

  • 0 = No Proficiency
  • 1 = Conceptual Understanding
  • 2= Developing Proficiency
  • 3 = Independently Proficient
  • 4 = Advanced Knowledge/Skills
  • 5 = Expert Level Knowledge/Skills

A subset of these 60 competencies were tested through the knowledge based assessment reflecting the score out of 50. These scores are weighted to adjust the self-assessment results by a small margin to check the validity of the self-assessment to help refine the overall picture. For example, if you rated yourself high in a competency, but you didn’t score well on the knowledge-based assessment questions pertaining to that competency, then your overall score will go down a bit as a result. The profile visualizes data that highlights your skill strengths and opportunities to focus on for improvement.

Role Expectation Page

Shows the expected proficiency levels for the functional area each participant selected that you are currently or wanting to work in cybersecurity at a similar job role level you identified your professional experience at on the assessment survey. This expectation data is an aggregate of Skillrex industry data we have from our enterprise clients’ leadership expectations and employee performance metrics across several industries. So this should be taken with a grain of salt as various industries and individual organizations will vary in terms of expectations and needs but gives a generalized baseline.

Skills Gap Analysis Page

Compares the skills proficiency levels of the individual talent profile to the functional area profile expectations. We’re using the Skills Gap Analysis to provide each participant with some direction to guide their professional development activities.

This can highlight areas to focus your learning, training, and experience opportunities and guide the development of individualized training recommendations. The rating differences are color coded by level of gap filtered from most significant to least gap top to bottom.

  • Negative differences highlighted in red: A significant gap with differences over 35 points and should be prioritized first.
  • Negative differences highlighted in orange: A moderate developmental gap between 20 and 35 points.
  • Negative differences highlighted in yellow: An emerging gap between 10 and 20 points.
  • Negative differences highlighted in green: A minor gap less than 10 points.
  • Positive differences highlighted in green: Matches or exceeds expectations and demonstrates areas of strength.

      Next Steps

      • You can use this report to identify a subset of competencies that have the largest skill gaps to focus on gaining knowledge, skills, and experiences. Think of ways you can showcase the competencies that were identified as your biggest strengths.
      • You may take a similar post-assessment later to measure progress. Skillrex will then provide you with an updated report that will demonstrate how your talent profile has changed to reflect the differences in the competency scores that hopefully reflect the gains in knowledge, skills, and abilities related to these competencies. Skillrex will also provide recommendations for training opportunities for common courses and certifications relevant to your cybersecurity career functional area that will help you close the remaining skills gaps that you can look into.
      • Thank you for your time completing this assessment! We are hopeful you find these data insights helpful as a compliment to the additional tools and resources you are receiving. We wish you the best of luck as you transition and grow in your cybersecurity career!
